Blaine,
1. Wintel mainly targets the lower end of the server market(For now). I believe Sun mainly competes in the mid to high server range.
2. 23-25 P/E is not too high if Sun maintains the 20% earnings increases.
3.Fees for Java will not materially effect earnings at the moment. Java is much much more important as a 'calling card' for their server business and also for the 'mindshare' of internet market.
4.NT increases are high but from a much smaller base then Unix. Unix will still dominate the mid to high end mission critical needs of most large companies.
5. True, NT will become increasingly dominant but not as quickly as most expect.
I believe NT will start to make major inroads in the Unix camp by the beginning of '97. For the remaining '96, Sun will continue to have explosive growth due to demand for their servers.
I am long on both Sun & Microsoft.
My 2 cents.
Vinh
