"I am waiting to see the market indices expressed in terms of the square root of minus 1."
Or in terms of division by zero. The Nasdaq's actual value might be expressed as:
(Nasdaq Composite)/0
This would explain why any attempt to comprehend the market seems so fruitless, since any attempt at definition is pointless with division by zero. It would also give us grounds for doing away with the market, since it's not a "legal" fraction. What we're all trying to do as traders is give value to something ultimately worthless, in other words. And not only worthless, but meaningless.
So basically, I think the Nasdaq is now really at: 2149/0. It explains why it's all inexplicable. Since 2149/0 could be anything, it's undefined. That's why anyone can get away with saying anything about the market. It's the basis for technical analysis, and TA's infinite number of indicators, predictions, etc.

I'll be giving an illuminating talk, "Infinitism: A New Approach to Technical Analysis of Stocks," at a TA gathering this summer, outside the conference room -- in fact, outside the cheap hotel, on the curb. |
