Re: As to whether or not it is cheaper to have two RDRAM channels than 2 DDR channels, it is not so clear.

Maybe the marginal cost for the second channel is low because, while DDR is OK on 4 layer boards, recent reports indicate that even one channel RDRAM has problems unless a 6 layer board is used. So to add a second channel to a DDR board means going from 4 layers to 6, while for RDRAM you're already at 6 even for single channel boards.

If a manufacturer has already been forced to go to 6 layers for RDRAM, it may be that the incremental cost of a second memory channel isn't very high. So maybe we'll never see a moderately priced, single channel, RDRAM board, but any boards we do see will all be dual channel.

Regards,

Dan
