Especially in America , where all religious beliefs are allowed to mingle and freedom of thought and religious practice is allowed .
Go back 30 or more years in this country and all these fundie cults that are so active now were practically in hiding. People who belonged were commonly reluctant to admit it. Then: Roe v. Wade and in the ensuing decades they have done their best to take over the government (and may finally have suceeded.) Getting them back into the can again is going to be tough.
History isn't a straight line; there are many sharp, jagged curves.
I think you're being very simplistic about this.

But what I mean by One religion , is given more time , say another 150 years , alot more synthesis of belief & change will take place. And sans " The Second Coming " or the coming of the Jewish Great Messiah, I think we will see more of the barriers of these religious/cult/superstitons coming down.
But it is so nice to think that you are part of a special few chosen and blest by God, and all those ignorant, sinful fools out there who mock you are going to Hell. A great many people are going to be unwilling to give that up.
