SUF's annual report mentions a jv with Falconbridge for exploration of a number of farms covering portions of the Platreef south of Amplat's property hosting the Sandsloot open pit mine.

For anyone with interest, ARQ has a farmin on portions of the platreef north of Amplats holdings. Results to date on ARQ's website, available at hdgold.com , indicate thickness and grades (30-45 meters at 1.5 to 1.79 gms/t) are suitable only for open pit mining at current metal prices.

The key to the SUF/Falconbridge jv exploration project will be to identify areas along the reef trend where the dip flattens or rolls over near surface. This is required to discover and prove large tonnages with low stripping ratios. Provided there is sufficient outcrop, a low cost reconnaissance mapping program with emphasis on structural geology should quickly identify promising areas along the reef trend for followup work and preliminary drill testing. Very good results could come quickly and cheaply here, especially when you consider this area is 100 kilometers or less from Messina.
