OT

the PLA is almost obsolete, and could be wiped out in a day by the US, with submarine cruise missiles.

If using "submarine cruise missiles" were a feasible option, our military would consist of maybe 50 people. Unfortunately, geopolitical strife often necessitates solutions more complex than cruise missiles.

IMHO, China is no longer ideological about Communism. It has stopped mattering to them whether the cat is black or white (as long as it catches the mouse), to steal a saying from Deng. To think of China as a "red menace" trying to spread Communism throughout the world is to confuse it with the 1950s USSR, which was much, much more ideological and intrusive.

But then, everything I know, I get from the NY Times. Where's tekboy when you need him?
