Oh you really should! You'll get those calluses soon enough, too....My daughter recently bought a piano after a 10 year hiatus from playing and the first thing she had to do was lose the long nails.<vbg>

I love listening to acoustical guitar "live", very relaxing, I'm sure Mr. L would enjoy it. We were just looking at some new guitars a few weeks ago, some beautiful instruments out there.
