Looks like software can be unstable when the settings are incorrect.
By the way, we have been configuring the PC's we buy with Matrox G400 video cards for the last year and a half, using Slot A motherboards from MSI and Abit and Socket A motherboards from Asus and MSI and have never seen this problem on any machine.
In a year and a half, on a large variety of configurations including a machine with 2 gigabytes of RAM routinely used to manipulate images well over a gigabyte in size, using that specific graphics card. We do a lot of image editing and manipulation with Pagemaker, WideImage, R2V, Arc/Info, and other programs. 3 of our Athlon servers have multiple SCSI controllers and 2 have multi-channel SCSI array controllers. Two machines have multiple 3COM redundant server NICs. Several of the machines have fiber NICs instead of copper NICs. They all use versions of the Matrox G400. Most of the workstations use dual head cards, some of the servers have single head cards.
We run Windows 2000 or Windows 2000 server on almost all of these machines, a few still run NT and one or two may be running windows 98.
We've never seen this problem. With all the loads we throw at our huge variety of Athlon systems, I would think we'd have seen this problem if it were anything other than extremely obscure. And if anyone ever does run into the problem, it's fixed by changing a setting.
