DMC Stratex Networks Introduces Low-Cost Ethernet Interface for Transmitting Wireless Data Traffic
Ethernet Interface Unit Enables DS-3/E3 Wireless Transport of Fast Ethernet Data Across the MAN at a Third of the Price of Competing Interface Solutions
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DMC Stratex Networks (Nasdaq: STXN), one of the world's foremost solutions providers for cellular applications and broadband wireless access, today announced the 100BaseT Ethernet Interface Unit (EIU) for high-speed wireless transport of users' Fast Ethernet data traffic across the "first mile" into the metropolitan area network (MAN), all at a fraction of the cost of competing 100BaseT wireless interface solutions.
The EIU connects the XP4 wireless product family, DMC Stratex Networks' most popular product line, to Fast Ethernet equipment such as switches and routers for wireless transport of data information. DMC Stratex Networks will unveil the XP4 EIU publicly for the first time at SUPERCOMM 2001 in Atlanta, June 5 - 7, in booth No. 2942.
Released to address the demands for wireless delivery of data in a cost-effective, easy-to-use and compact solution, the EIU connects XP4 equipment directly into an Ethernet LAN 100BaseT port at a savings of up to $7,000 per wireless link compared to other solutions. Taking up only half a single rack unit space, this externally mounted converter accepts Fast Ethernet traffic input from the LAN and conditions it for rapid transport over the wireless link in a variety of licensed radio frequencies.
Interest in this type of converter has grown as more companies' Ethernet traffic extends into MANs, requiring cost-effective transport. Projections show that by 2005, more than 80 percent of network traffic will be data(1).
"Our customers demand a high-speed network connection between their company and the MAN," said Chris Halicki, Senior Radio Design Manager of YOUR Communications (formerly Norweb Telecom UK). "They require us to offer a solution that extends Ethernet from their LAN to the network in the most cost-effective way. We see DMC Stratex' new XP4 EIU as the solution that provides this capability at a far lower price than any competing option."
Competing solutions require an expensive channel service unit/data service unit (CSU/DSU) at each end of the wireless link to convert from voice optimized circuits to data traffic, increasing the cost of the single wireless connection by more than $10,000.
"The XP4 EIU meets our customers' requirements because it is the only product of its kind delivering affordable, high-speed wireless data transport in a carrier-grade solution at many frequencies," said Sam Smookler, DMC Stratex Networks president and CEO. "Saving money and delivering more services and functions is the name of the game these days, and our EIU delivers a cost savings at every connection point in the network. It opens up opportunities for us with new network service providers with Ethernet networks, and enhances what is already the company's most popular wireless product line."
The XP4 is a quickly installed, low-cost wireless network solution, offering flexible transmission rates in frequency bands from 7 GHz to 38 GHz. |
