Paul, re: Compaq's new 8-way P3 Xeon server announcement, Very interesting. Apparently the 8-way Profusion chipset still has a lot of life left. In order to support PCI-X, Compaq must have developed a new south bridge for the Profusion chipset. This shouldn't be hard for Compaq, considering that they also designed the old south bridge. But it's a sign that Compaq plans on continuing the Profusion platform for quite a while. This is remarkable given that 8-way platforms seem to have taken a back seat to all of the hoopla surrounding 2-way servers, especially the ultra-slim variety. By the way, did you notice the 14U "rack-optimized" form factor of Compaq's 8-way server? Geez, I'd hate to be the guy who has to lift that monster up and slide it into the rack! Tenchusatsu
