Avici Systems Introduces IPriori 4.0 Software for Advanced MPLS Services and Unmatched Scalability ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2001--Improves Service Delivery and Strengthens Profit Models
Avici Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: AVCI), the leader in scalable core routing solutions for intelligent IP-over-optical networks, today announced the immediate availability of its IPriori(TM) 4.0 software for its TSR(R) scalable core router. Avici's IPriori 4.0 enhancements enable carriers to deliver advanced services economically by providing standards-based, feature-rich software and unmatched scalability.
Carriers are faced with many challenges including eroding profit models and slow service delivery as they try to increase profits with new service deployments. Avici's IPriori 4.0 features are designed to help carriers achieve lower operational costs, faster provisioning times and higher profits when building and operating converged service networks.
Through IPriori 4.0, Avici has added Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) to its previously released IPriori Resource Reservation Protocol for Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE), which allows service providers to support advanced Virtual Private Network (VPN) services and MPLS traffic engineering across multi-vendor networks. Additional features include high-density Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for local loop services offering up to 320 ports per system, per-VPN policy definition (M-BGP) and MPLS Quality of Service (QoS) to support differentiated services such as video-on-demand, Voice over IP (VoIP) and VPNs.
With IPriori 4.0, carriers can cost-effectively deploy scalable IP/MPLS backbones that support multi-service edge networks, enabling end-to-end MPLS and QoS services. This core network simplification allows carriers to focus valuable talent and capital on building networks based on open MPLS standards and generate new revenue streams with additional IP services.
"Avici's support of MPLS with QoS is critical in providing carriers with a smooth migration to an MPLS-empowered IP network," said Chris Nicoll, vice president of telecom infrastructure at analyst firm Current Analysis. "MPLS with QoS enables carriers to ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for high-priority MPLS services alongside legacy IP traffic."
Steve Kaufman, president and chief operating officer of Avici Systems said, "Carriers are focused on their bottom line and Avici offers them powerful economies of scale to drive down the cost of building and operating next-generation networks. Avici is the leader in scalable core routing and we are continually working to expand and enhance our technology solutions to help carriers bring new IP services to market."
