WJ Communications Expands Product Line With New UNII Band Point-to-Multipoint Head End and Subscriber Transceiver Units

ATLANTA, Jun 4, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- WJ Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:WJCI) announced today a major expansion of its wireless product line, designed to capitalize on the continued growth of the fixed broadband wireless market. At SUPERCOMM 2001, WJ is introducing Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and Head End transceivers in the U-NII band for point-to-multipoint wireless applications. The UNII RF transceivers are outdoor units (ODU's) that operate in the 5.7 - 5.8 GHz frequency range and are compatible with Cisco Systems' WT2750 Multipoint Broadband Wireless System.

WJ Communications' U-NII band ODU's are capable of data rates up to 22Mbps fully duplexed. WJ's Head End covers a cell radius of up to 5 miles, provides user provisioned channel sizes ranging from 1.5MHz to 6MHz and has automatic power leveling control. The ODU utilizes Vector Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (VOFDM) technology that allows transmitted signals to be more robust against multi-path and fading environments. The units provide a low cost ease of installation solution.

WJ is currently the only qualified supplier of ODU's for this technology, having produced and sold thousands of units to date for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint UNII, and MMDS applications.

"The UNII market which provides high data rate services for last-mile access is expanding rapidly," according to the Company's Senior Vice President, Wireless Division, Ron Buswell. "Cisco's second generation (VOFDM) wireless technology provides significant advantages compared to single carrier systems and WJ's ODU's provide the RF link to complete the wireless connection." The SX1126 (CPE) and SX1127 (Head End) are being presented at WJ's booth at SUPERCOMM 2001 in Atlanta, GA June 5th-7th.

WJ Communications, headquartered in San Jose, California, designs, develops and manufactures innovative broadband communications products for the current and next generation wireless communications, broadband cable and fiber optic networks. For more information visit wj.com.
