Addressing the 50s Cheney/Bush mentality of solving energy problems by more and more exploration for oil.....

A math professor from Arizona State takes the Bushies to task for their misguided energy policy. Calculus 101 problem: If you have 100 years of oil reserves at present usage, how many years of reserves will you have if usage increases at 5% per year? Answer: 36 years. Now suppose that the reserve figure was all wrong, you actually had 1,000 years of reserves. Wow! So how long would that last at 5% increase usage? Answer: 79years! Now suppose you made a humungous discovery and raised the reserves to 10,000 years, that amount will last 125 years!! Oh the futility of increasing production. We will only bankrupt the future of the world. Conservation and alternate renewable sources are the answer for the future. Nothing else will do the trick. If politicians only understood math, if our President understood anything, we would be way ahead of the game.
