Re: But blowing up kids in front of a dance hall in Tel Aviv does not equate to defending yourself against kids seeking a confrontation with you, throwing rocks and molotov cocktails while the adults hide behind them with sniper rifles.
As I said, Israel is a stratocracy, that is, a garrison state where everyone is or has been, or will be, part of the military: those Russian kids who were dancing all night long in the Pacha disco on Friday night were probably patrolling along the Gaza strip the day before... Israel's military service calls for a 3-year duty for the boys and an 18-month duty for the girls. As for the colonies' "innocent civilians", we should keep in mind that, in most countries, civilians don't walk around with an Uzi submachine gun slung across the shoulder...
However, you have a point: public opinion in the US and Europe is much more receptive to Israel's ordeal than to the ongoing killing of Palestinian youths by a "regular army". Western people identify themselves more easily with the parents or the kids involved in the Pacha bombing than with "Arab wogs" throwing stones at "law-and-order" officers.... That's what I'd call a Barbarians-at-the-gates bias...
