Quick Eagle Networks Announces Multilink Frame Relay Interoperability With Advanced Switching Communications TUESDAY, JUNE 05, 2001 8:01 AM - BusinessWire
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jun 5, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Quick Eagle Networks, Inc., a worldwide leader in IP access for managed services, announced today the successful completion of multilink frame relay (MLFR) interoperability testing with Advanced Switching Communications' (Nasdaq:ASCX) multiservice access switches featuring MLFR. The combination of the Quick Eagle customer premise equipment and ASC's multi-service access switches provides a complete MLFR offering for carriers worldwide.
Multilink frame relay combines multiple physical T1 lines into a single, logical connection that operates at multiple T1 speeds. Multilink frame relay (MLFR) is a cost-effective means of operating at bandwidth speeds greater than 1.5 Mbps of a T1 line, without incurring the high cost of a T3 line. Quick Eagle Networks' 4200 IP Access Platform establishes a new price point to 3 Mbps (two T1s) frame relay service, previously unavailable in the industry. Combined with ASC's MultiStream technology, service providers can now cost-effectively deploy higher speed standards-based Frame Relay services.
With frame relay continuing to grow, primarily fueled by the growth in corporate Intranet and Internet access traffic, the need for lower-cost, higher-speed frame relay access will become increasingly more important. Solutions based on Quick Eagle Networks' 4200 IP Access Platform and ASC's MultiStream technology can lower the capital cost of providing multilink frame relay by as much as 80%.
The 4200 IP Access Platform can be initially deployed in a single T1 configuration and can be software reconfigured to support two T1s, eliminating the need to replace customer equipment when a second T1 is required. By using ASC's multiservice switches in the network, service providers are no longer restricted to using matching, proprietary network-based NxT1 inverse multiplexers, and can take advantage of the inherent cost-effectiveness of standards-based solutions.
"Quick Eagle Networks is the worldwide market leader in multilink technologies, with installations in many of the world's largest networks. Our commitment is to deliver standards-based services with the same quality and reliability that has allowed us to achieve our market dominance in the bit-based multi-link market," said Vinita Gupta, president and CEO, Quick Eagle Networks. "The industry has worked long and hard to construct multilink frame relay standards that work. We're pleased to be an early mover in the open, standards-based space."
"Quick Eagle Networks has a long history of being an early mover in nearly every advancement in WAN technology. The company's large carrier presence and an established track record of shipping high-quality products makes it a very credible partner in this emerging space," said Ed Traub, director of service provider marketing, "The availability of Quick Eagle's service-ready 4200 IP Access Platform in concert with our MultiStream access switches provides carrier customers with a complete multilink frame relay solution that is optimal for the majority of NxT1 customers."
