Hope in Sudan? - Carl Bildt
bildt.net

There is a sudden momentum in the search for peace in Sudan.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell has been in the region and making clear his commitment.
Sudan has reestablished links with Uganda and with Egypt. Both are key to any peace deal.
Sudan's Foreign Minister is touring Europe, visiting Norway, Germany and France.
And a peace summit between the regime and the rebels will be held in Nairobi during the first days of June.

It might well be a false dawn. There are very difficult issues that needs to be tackled.
And the international communitz isn't yet as committed to a peace process as is required.

But after years of just being forgotten, there is now attention to the conflict in Sudan. Oil has a part in this as well.
And that brings hope to the country and the region.
