AMAT CONSUMER ADVERTISING:

I echo your comments completely.

In Advertising 1.0 (even before Advertising 1.01) you learn:

1) Decide on WHAT it is you have to offer
2) Decide on WHO it is you are appealing to
3) Target them directly by skillful use of media

The general public are not:

-- semiconductor companies with their own fabs
-- semiconductor foundries

The general public are not even aware of the semiconductors
used INSIDE the products they purchase, let alone which
semi-equipment company's tools were used for some part of the process.

If AMAT wants to talk to investors, they can target them
infinitely easier, and much more cheaply. There are a huge number of Internet financial sights on which AMAT could buy banners for relatively peanuts. And many other possibilities as well.

If AMAT were a near-term candidate for the website
FuckedCompany.com OR a stupidly managed dotcom company
run by people with a bet-the-farm mentality, such behavior
would at least be understandable.

No question, AMAT is a truly great company. But this is not how they got there.

Namaste!

Jim
