Gee,I have been beaten up because I was Jewish, or smart, or a goodie- two- shoes.

Well, I figured that. Don't you remember what that felt like? I don't mean the beating. I mean being dismissed as something not worthy of the group's concerns. I don't see how you could experience that ever in your life and forget it.

Now, people have different ways of dealing with those experiences. I've dealt with it by making it my hobby horse. Everything from the civil rights movement to making sure that office lunches accommodated everyone's dietary needs. I may be a bit more vocal about things that affect me personally like seat belts and perfume, but I try to be aware of the concerns of others and to avoid dissing people for no good reason.

Some people deal with these slights by building up anger over long periods of time until they go berserk with a gun. I'd think your concern for societal order, if nothing else, would make you sympathetic to my argument that society should be more attentive to the needs of those who are a little different. I'm really surprised to find you tolerating bullying in any form.
