It actually seems to correlate very well with sun spot cycles. I have the same confusion when we want to turn an area back to its' natural state. Where I live was once a large lake, a beach, a sand dune, boiling lava, a glacier, a forest, a prairie, and probably a lot more. I kind of have gotten used to it the way it is now.
