The USA restricts all sorts of things. For example the USA is illegally restricting sheep imports from New Zealand and Australia and is being dragged before the World Trade Organisation for breaching trading rules. No, it's not to stop foot and mouth disease or mad sheep disease or any other problem. It's purely a restrictive trade practise to allow sheep farmers in the USA to rip off USA sheep eaters.

Citizens of the USA have a very myopic view of the world. They have very much a 'good guys, bad guys' view [as do most people around the world so they are in good company].

NAFTA was introduced to allow more free trade. That's a relatively new thing. Until then, there were all sorts of trade restrictions even with neighbours.

Actually, the USA isn't the buyer of first resort, last resort or in between. Every buyer around the world is a buyer. The USA buys a LOT! So they are a BIG buyer, but any sale is a good sale and sales occur around the world all the time.

It's a big enmeshed mercantile world now.

Keep in mind that buying things is not a charitable action. It benefits the buyer. So the USA, being the biggest buyer, gets the most benefit from all the poorly paid people around the world. Politically ignorant people [such as those supporting USA sheep farmers] look on trade as a charitable act. It's more like a colonialist act [which I'm in favour of].

The USA is colonizing the world by buying from it and establishing companies such as QUALCOMM which is setting up businesses around the world [via licensing]. Colonisation [of a voluntary kind] is good. Look at how well off Jay Chen is as a result of the wonderful British who colonized Hong Kong in a selfless act of benevolence, saving it from a century of Chinese mayhem.

Africa is a mess since the colonists withdrew.

Locals don't like colonisation [some of them] because it means they can't rip off their compatriots and hold them in feudal ways.

Colonisation Powell and Condominium Rice are going to rule the world! Alan Green$pan will fund it. Georgie will nuke anyone who gets too stroppy.
