Let's have a simplex talk ;)

I read a news the other day from Simplex (SPLX) about how they will revolutionize the chip making process. From their name (a numerical method used in routing optimization) I am assuming that they have made a software to allow optimization of diagonal routing, thereby making Manhattan routing (grid pattern) obsolete. I haven't been able to find much concrete info on this, especially since they describe themself as software for "system on a chip" design. Apparently, they have contracts with AMAT and few others. If indeed they have accomplished what they say (as strongly as they say it), then this could be a boost for the industry as a whole. The last time I had to design a chip, the feature sizes were an order of magnitude bigger than current desings. So I'm asking those in the know to enlighten me as to what components of a fab will have to be retooled to take advantage of this software. As well, on the scale of hype+vapourware-to-dawn+of+a+new+age where would you put this?

thanks
