Maverick - What makes you think that the Federal government didn't play a part in California's energy mess?
It wasn't JUST Calif. that caused the creation of the mess. . .
It was a combination of California ex-spurts as well as Federal laws that made it happen.
The point is. . . It has happened. . . Calif is on the way to a good solution. . .
But, it will not be solved in a few short months.
I'm not saying price caps. . . per se. . . I would, at least, like to see fair trade happen. . .
People selling power to Calif. deserve to receive a FAIR profit. . .
Not how much blood they can squeeze out of it making things much worse.
I think controlling a FAIR maximum gross profit percentage is in order. . . Whatever that is. . . 100% 150%. . .
It's very rare that businesses would have more than 100% gross profit (unless they are Dr's or Lawyers).
Whatever it is, percentages exceeding 200% 300% 400% 1,000+++% aka Price Gouging should be stopped!
If that can't be done, then have the Federal Governnment pay the excess over a fair percentage!
As I said before. . . I don't know what the real answer is. . . but it must stop the price gouging.
And it is SHORT-TERM. . . that means NOT Forever!
When some of the new Calif. plants are up & running, taking the heat off, then go back to normal.
Maybe we should levy an export tax. . . An energy tax on everything shipped OUT of California?
Let's see. . . That would cover a few CPU chips, Software, Hardware, Movies, TV Shows, records (CD's), crop foods, electronic equipment, etc. Perhaps that would be better?! Then the people that depend on the goods, services, etc. that come from California would help pay for the problem!

You don't seem to think that if the Calif. economy gets tanked, it won't effect the rest of the nation!
It will! . . . Big Time!
I think the State of California rates a little higher than a public corporation like Chrysler!
The government stepped in & helped them. . . Why not for California? Which would have a bigger impact on the nation if they went belly-up!
Rates have been increased, but should have been increased long ago. . . but NO, a Federal agency WOULD NOT LET IT HAPPEN!! . . and even at that, the rates were not allowed to be increased to where they should be!!
Who disallowed the rate increases?? FERC. . . the fat little FEDERAL thumb!!
Hey, it's NOT all California's fault. . . the Federal crap did their share!
OK, that's it. . . I'm off my soap box. . . I'm not going to waste any more time on the subject. . .
But, I will say. . . If the Federal Government allows California to be price gouged whereby the State must declare bankrupcy, you will hear a roar so loud you will need ear-muffs in New York to Washington!
