voop: Your ring of fire analogy is powerful.

Asia is where it is at.

Europe is where it is not.

Now for a bit of speculation:

For a long time I have been extremely skeptical that given (to put it clearly) the bribes and corruption which is a way of life in much of the government "agencies" and government "enterprises" around the world and the pattern of same from Europe in particular, that what was a sort of "old boy" network of the Ericssons and Nokias et al could not be cracked.

But it seems that perhaps there is a glimmer, a glimmer only, of hope that real world considerations are overcoming the cosy closed systems where you make money by keeping tight control over telecom rather than opening up access.

We shall see.

The most encouraging sign is in India which seemed absolutely hopeless for any actual real competition. Yet there is at least a possibility opening for CDMA WLL at least.

Again, let's see.

Best.
