I guess Dennis you would favor power plants and power lines being built as long as the were say in Nevada or Oregon - where you didn't have to see them, but where you could benefit from the power they generate.

No Mav, you guess wrong. I live 3000 miles east of California and I'm not planning to move soon. <g>

I was just pointing out that the statement that liberal tree huggers being the primary cause of the energy supply problem in the great state of California is mistaken. The large majority of property owners in California felt the same way as property owners anywhere else in the country. Anything that might threaten the value of their property was (understandably) not welcomed with open arms. Seems rational to me. To try to blame a small extremist (your inference) group of environmentalists seems to show some naivete on your part concerning how local politics works. Democracy is a wonderful aspect of any political system but it can make things messy at times.

I know its popular for those on the right to bash environmentalists and blame them for being roadblocks on the journey to free markets, but power lines...power plants and nuclear power plants IMBY have not been an easy sell to most property owners...liberal, conservative, libertarian, socialist, independent, whig or whatever.

I didn't invent the NIMBY syndrome...I just thought that I'd point it out as a more viable reason for restrictions on power development than your tree hugger argument. Not as sexy just more valid.
