mr mark, thanks for the nav heads up. First time I tried it said I'm up-to-date already. The second time it took. Laptop modem driver: I discovered the 'new' driver foisted on me by Windows Update was really much older than the one it replaced. What's more, the Lucent site had a newer one yet - which I installed today. I'm wondering what is different about new drivers. No site ever tells us. Gottfried
