I do not know him personally or know anyone who does. I guess I'm guilty of judging him from what I read. And it doesn't seem to fit. For example, he has apologized several times for what he said.

Consider that many on this thread have had a good time in the last couple of days poking fun at a devout Christian. Is Id a "Christian-hater"? I don't know him either, but I doubt it. The fact that a person makes judgments about someone's beliefs doesn't mean that he hates those who have those beliefs.

It amazes me how much slack fans are willing to give their prized athletes. Even the courts seem swayed by their prowess at times.

I agree. But I also believe that the anti-hate groups often go too far in attacking those whose speech offends them. This can have a "chilling effect" on free speech, especially when they demand that other institutions sanction those who choose to speak their minds. Better to just give an opposing viewpoint and let the public make up their own minds.

Must be a Darwinian thingie.

I won't comment on athletes "thingies" as this is a topic that doesn't interest me.
