Dan, <Weren't there problems with 4-way profusion that came out at about the same time as the serverworks chipset?>
You are clearly confused. Profusion is Intel's 8-way chipset. It was never intended for the 4-way market.
<IMHO, having another platform out there to confuse the market, that already has to decide between PIII Xeon, P4 Xeon, Itanium, Sparc, Alpha, PowerPC and now SMP Athlon, would be as likely to hurt INTC sales as to help.>
Once again, you are confused. Lumping SMP Athlon right in there with high-end offerings like Itanium, UltraSPARC, and Alpha makes about as much sense as lumping $600 value PCs with $3000 workstation PCs. The server market is segmented and complicated, just like desktops and even mobile. Like it or not, AMD's new SMP platform only enters that market from the bottom, though you and the AMDroids like to pretend that the 760MP platform is the greatest new invention since sliced bread.
