OT> Mav - I'm NOT attempting to BLAME any ONE entity for the problem! I have said it several times and I will say it again. . . read my lips. . . <g>
Everyone is to blame, in some way, for the mess. . . BUT. . . B U T . . .
THAT is NOT the POINT!
The point is the SOLUTION. . . A solution is required. . .
Apparently, you do not care about any real solution to the problem. . .
It seems to me, that you're happy to remain on the BLAME thing. . . You say I'm trying to blame the Feds for it. . . I say NO. . . just PART of it. . . End of the BLAME subject! . . . please.
Your solution is to let California get gouged with obscene energy pricing. . . without any alternative action(s). You would like to see California and it's major utility companies just disappear in a swallow of bankruptcy.
Is that a solution you are happy with? Perhaps you don't think it will effect you if that happens. . . Perhaps that's why you don't care. . . WRONG. . . you WILL be effected. . . EVERYBODY in the NATION will be effected.
A better solution must be attained. . . FOR THE SHORT-TERM to give California's plan a chance to work!
I like the California Export Tax idea. . . Pass on the excessive energy costs (gouging results) to everyone East of California in the form of an Energy Tax for all Goods & Services that come from California, Oregon, & Washington. After all, if one can't pass-on to the consumers additional operating costs, why continue in business?
As a result, the crooks could Price Gouge all they wanted and it wouldn't hurt at all. . . . . . it would only hurt the ones doing the gouging!
A temporary sales tax could be used. . . but I think the consumer rate increases handles the local State's contribution.
My comment on FERC. . . Which you requested. . . The utilities got hit with obscene charges for energy. . . The utilities wanted to raise their rates to their customers months ago in order to avert bankruptcy problems. . . Someone has to pay for it. . . right?! I'm more than willing to pay more for power. . . Now, the small part that FERC plays. . . They disallow it 100% . . . time goes by. . . Who's going to pay for it? The utility companies didn't plan on being gouged. . . PG&E declares bankruptcy. . . I guess that made a few people really happy! FERC finally has second thoughts and allows the utilities to raise their rates about 1/2 of what's really required to really do any good. . . They(we) still have to pay for all that power don't they? There are other things where the Fed has had their finger in the pot.
If you can't come up with a viable SOLUTION, don't post it. . . This is NOT about placing Blame. . .
This is about a solution!
