A miners' strike at Chilean state-
run copper producer Codelco's Radomiro Tomic mine moved into its
seventh day after talks with the No. 1 copper producer failed.
Union leaders plan to meet with Tomic's 400 miners to discuss
yesterday's negotiations with executives at Codelco, which ended
with both sides still far apart on demands for higher bonuses,
said Ramon Caceres, a union director. The strike has slashed
Tomic's daily copper output by as much as 70 percent, racking up
about $2.1 million in losses for Codelco. The Tomic mine produced
191,000 metric tons of copper last year, or 12 percent of
Codelco's production.
