Intel exterminating AMD

Message #136823 from Jim McMannis at Jun 6, 2001 5:30 PM
"In most all industries there is competition. Several dominant players. Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota...Coke, Pepsi, McDOnalds, Burger King to name a few. "

"It's very possible to thrive and reward shareholders without all out price wars.
The sooner Intel loses the mindset of exterminating AMD the better off they will be. Often it's better to accept the duopoly and expand by creating new products to fill new markets. It seems Intel is doing better at this."

I didn't say that exterminating AMD was an Intel mindset. I said that Intel no doubt _could_ drive them into insolvency if it were willing to get into a serious price war. One thing that stops them, when people suggest it (as they do), is concern about legal action.

As for moving forward, Intel is proceeding on several fronts. As a shareholder for 27 years, I'm relatively satisfied.

As an AMD shareholder, for far less time, I'm probably going to sell everything. I just don't think they can compete head-to-head on enough fronts.
