Thanks mark,

i bet you have a fairly good idea already what i'm going to say.... <g3>

Actually, you must have me confused with someone who has a clue. <w>

At some point, I really has to question how much navel gazing the 'Net wanderer ought to put up with in one lifetime. I started using computers in 1995, expecting as the technology matured that it would become more appliance like and useful. It seems that with all the madness and rudeness of the script kiddies, the generally poorly written application software developer's nightmares that take over the registry with all manner of unintended consequences and the immense amounts of time that go into solving mine and my friends glitches and gotchas on the PC that the signal to noise ratio on PCs is getting worse over time and not better. End Rant.

So, you think recreating the floppies should be a regular ritual. I've wondered what sort of settings might have to be changed on such a regular basis. Any simple, off the top of the noggin' answers to this one? I seem to recall the good old days when a reboot disk was one floppy and it never needed to be updated because it could at least get you to the DOS prompt. Have we made the process so convoluted now that we can't even do that elegantly any longer. (Sheesh, now I'm lamenting some lost golden age of simple PC pleasures, must be time for me to take a bike ride.... <g>)

Best, Ray :)
