"Ahhhh... Pond" rasped the hulking man with the bat dragging out the "ah" and inserting an extra-long space between "ah" and "Pond" for dramatic effect. "Mr. Pond, I've been tracking you since 1972. You and the other 2853 Bugs Ponds that I've found in the national phone directory that is."

Again the bat wielder paused as though for dramatic effect. If only they'd known that he suffered from a rare mental condition known as "Orata Interruptus" in which involuntary dramatic pauses were unknowingly inserted into his speech. What's really remarkable about the disease though is that the carrier is unaware he is afflicted since the involuntary pauses are accompanied by total and complete lapses of short term memory leaving the speaker with no recollection whatsoever of the simultaneously occurring speech defect.

"With 2725 of the Bugs Ponds checked out already I'm-"
"That's 95.5% of the listed Bugs Ponds!" Chimed in Precious cheerfully.
A quick glower from the bat man left Precious speechless as he picked up at the point where she had interrupted. "As I said, with 2725 of the listed Bugs Ponds already checked out, the odds of my finding the correct Bugs Pond are increasing daily."

The bat man looked directly at Bugs and asked "Did you ever play in the majors, and are you the Bugs Pond that sent my hometown team to the world series in 1972 by taking a beanball to walk in the winning run?"

There was a pregnant pause as everyone fell silent in the elevator and stared at Bugs.

Not being easily rattled, Bugs took the menacing appearance of the bat man in stride and decided to come clean with the truth. He opened his mouth and took a deep breath then...
