hi ken

my very first inclination is to tell you to migrate to win2000pro. w2k almost never uses up resources the way the win9x os's do. i guess ms finally learned how to stop all the memory leaks, or learned how to force applications to give the memory back when they were done using it instead of needlessly hanging onto it. what you have described is a dilemma that i am very familiar with having run win98 and been forced to reboot to refresh resources. with win2000pro, i reboot about every four days.

if you can't migrate to another os, then perhaps you should take a look at what you have running in the background. if you have a lot of applications starting up (and chances are you do), you may find some relief in disabling them, thus making your system resources last a little longer.

those would be my two best suggestions... switch operating systems or pare down the programs that you have starting. if you need some assistance doing the latter, let us know and we can help you with that.

fyi, here is the microsoft FAQs & Highlights for Windows 98 support.microsoft.com

i'd also think about whether the service pack for win98 does anything for memory support.microsoft.com (sorry, i don't know for sure).

and one more thing.... some browser versions are more efficient than others. i've had great success with ie5.5 but have read here on this thread where folks have had terrible performance from it and have rolled back to ie5.0

beyond that, let's see what others have to say <g>

good luck

:)
