Gottfried, Dennis and Steve,

Many thanks for your attempts, but nothing seems to work. I went to add/delete programs and only Mindspring Internet software is listed... not Outlook Express or Internet Explorer 5 or any IE for that matter.

I tried Langa's suggestion... no go. I tried typing in the numbers directly... still no go. I can't understand why only these URLs don't seem to come up (al least of those I've tried). I have had a problem with going to some URLs and have them start opening and then crash the computer going into a soft reboot and scandisk, but I always assumed this was because this is an old computer running with a Pentium II 266 and 128 megs of ram and the video card is an old Millenium 2. Now I'm not sure if the two are connected, but until a couple of weeks ago I had no problem connecting to those URLs. When I click on them now, the modem lights (it's an external modem) don't even flicker... so I know nothing is being downloaded or uploaded.

Anyone have any ideas? I could uninstall the Mindspring software and reinstall it, but how do I save all my e-mail folders and separate unfiled e-mails, and my address book, and my favorites, etc. ad nauseum. I thought computers were supposed to make our lives easier <VBG>.

Your efforts are all truly very much appreciated.

Marty
