hi pw

re, "Just my thoughts"

and good ones they are, as always.

"adding a little new to a lot of old...introduces additional places for errors to creep in. Re-creating, or making all new over again, provides me with the assurance that all is consistent"

i like your thinking here. but i believe that it's okay, at some point, to go with incremental updates. i believe that the programs were written to support this method, and that it is probably a safe way of guarding against the potential disaster we all feel is out there waiting to happen.

i am reminded of how iomega back up software handles things. a user creates a full system back up, then can opt for incremental back ups for awhile, until eventually the software prompts the user to create a new full system back up again. this would tend to support your thinking AND mine... that perhaps a combination of updates and re-creations can complement one another nicely.

then, of course, there's the time element. for those among us who find it difficult to set aside time for updates, the process of creating entire new disks with each change to the system becomes a bit much to ask.

after having thought about it, however, i do believe it's a good time for me to re-create some rescue disk sets.

:)
