Bre-X did the mining industry, and Pacific Archipelagoes a world of good I'm not sure about the "good" part, Bre-X reduced the reputation of gold and the mining of gold as something for the mentally challenged. "Good" if you see it hastening the demise of the carry-trade, which probably helped it along in the first place. Anyway, I've positioned a certain portion of my portfolio in precious metals as a long term investment. I agree with SI board wisdom about inflation, and how to protect wealth. Timmins, Matheson, Pamour, Hollinger... BTW: I enjoyed the trip thru memory lane, I'm from Timmins, born and raised -- French Canadian, used to ride my Moto-X bike in some of the abandoned open-pit mines. Question: I've heard the best way to create demand for the yellow stuff is to actually buy it and take possession.
