I was responding to this position that you have posted more than once. "...if society believes it is wrong to kill, then it is wrong for society to kill" You reference this position as the logical determiner of the death penalty decision. "if society believes it is ok to kill in self defense, or to protect the weak against an aggressor?" I simply wanted to know if you were enough of a passivist that you would not support this rationale for killing that society does believe in. "...society believes it is ok to kill in self defense, or to protect the weak against an aggressor?" It is different in the death penalty in that the perpetrator has been restrained from action. The perp is still considered someone who is posing a threat and must be dealt with. I tried to move the death penalty to the side and discuss the "OK then what?" question a couple of days ago. Our "throw money at it" approach is a non-decision to not deal with irresolvable crimes and criminals. Society is suffering from our own neglect of this issue. Any justifiable suggestions??
