Belgium plans EU biotech food push

The EU has been much more resistant to genetically modified (GM) crops than the United States because of public concerns over their impact on health and the environment. The EU has not approved any new GM crops since 1998. In June 1999, a majority of environment ministers informally agreed to block further approvals until legislation was revised.
