Merrill's Milunovich cautious on techs By Julie Rannazzisi
While investors nibbled on techs Thursday, Merrill Lynch's Steve Milunovich said he continues to be fairly cautious and would remain slightly underweight the technology sector. "Inventories are highest in the communications value chain and we think it will take three to four quarters to work those down. We're now getting signs that weakness in the U.S. has spread abroad. We are beginning to also see this in Asia [and thus] we believe it is a synchronized IT global slowdown," Milunovich told clients. Among the tech groups Milunovich favors are computer services -- which he defines a good defensive segment -- electronics manufacturing services companies and storage, where he expects long-term growth and margins to hold up. The analyst said he'd stay underweight in wireless communication equipment.

He, Osha and Niles seem to be trying to do the right thing lately. I guess that's a fringe benefit of reg FD....
