flats, corporate welfare dwarfs money that helps the less fortunate in this country. the bottom line is that most powerful folks just don't like poor folks b/c they believe they did it to themselves. i argue that the #1 determinant of success in life is one's parents. bill gates born to a drug addicted welfare queen in seattle's rainier district would not be the same bill gates as the one born to two lawyers at a precise time in history. fortunate people often confuse skill with good fortune, imho. i'm not saying some successful folks aren't skilled, they are. i'm saying the reason they are skilled is in large part due to their upbringing - with the parents being an integral part. i do see a very nasty game of fighting over resources. those that have want more even if it means that unfortunate "parent pickers" have less food on the table.
