Eric- Very interesting battle going on between Charter and ESPN. Could be a pre-cursor to many more MSO vs Content battles to come.

Wonder what would happen if Charter said to heck with ESPN and opened up their pipes to any content company that PAYS them to access their customers? That doesn't seem as backwards to me as what is currently the status quo today(cablecos pay for content).

Interesting how Charter is taking almost the opposite tactic and trying to limit Internet content. IMO, the more the big content companies such as ESPN push Internet content, the better for MSOs such as Charter because it makes ESPN on Cable TV less important AND makes the broadband pipe Charter supplies much more important to ESPN....so eventually ESPN's own Internet actions could flip-flop on them and make Charter king.

In other words, let ESPN shoot themselves in the foot. It'll drive more cable subs to opt for revenue generating cable modems AND it'll force ESPN to indirectly pay for pushing their content through Charter's pipe (via reduced TV content contracts). -MikeM(From Florida)
