There's a difference between a handout and a helping hand. I am opposed to a one-time financial bonus, or reparation, to America's underclass. Unlike you, however, I see no harm in offering financial incentives for those that break away from dependency and embrace knowledge. This scholarship plan that I spoke of is an excellent idea that needs to be explored further. Unfortunately, for too many people in this country, the "pity me victim mentality" is the only one they know. Children born amidst poverty and of single parents who have no use or appreciation for education need a major helping hand.

To do nothing will ensure that the cycle of dependency will continue generation after generation after generation.
