Here's something you might want to try: if you typically view a series of pages, and move through them by clicking "next", you could install a free prefetcher. It will look for Next, Next 10 Messages, >>, or whatever you specify, then download the linked pages and store them in the browser's cache. On some machines it will get from the cache to the screen pretty fast. A couple of people on this thread have tried it and liked it.

There's also a way to drag and drop any link onto the toolbar and have it prefetch the page, but it doesn't seem to work with my setup (W2000 SP2 IE 55.5).
