To remain competitive AMD has pushed the gate lengths of their 0.18 micron process to the 0.13 micron level. Gate length shrinks are a common tool to incrementally improve the performance of a manufacturing process, but pushing it to the next node is pretty extreme. [TWY] What data do you base your conclusions on? The concept can't be new to you so you must mean where is he getting his AMD specific data, right? I've seen measurements of AMD's channel lengths and they are indeed on the extreme edge of late, hence the conclusion that AMD is desperate to keep from falling farther behind. This is not speculation. It is real and the evidence is there in their silicon. EP
