sure...but then, when we went down in Feb/March, they were bearish...i'm talking about reaching extremes to pick the optimum entry, since the momentum alone can carry things a bit further. i agree, the VIX is signaling complacency, but it's not a precise timing tool...it could go to 17 or 18 for instance. i for one think the best signals are given by the VIX when it diverges...i'd like to see the market go higher and the VIX rise concurrently for instance (remember the March 2000 top?). i wouldn't want to play a 2 or 3 day pullback, however sharp (unless it's a BK like plunge). i'd rather want to catch a good downtrend that lasts a few weeks.
next week there's a chance for a negative macro-economic surprise...not that they cared much about those lately, but we get another set of PPI/CPI data, with expectations for very tame numbers as usual.
