In September 1992 the US was coming out of recession, but it was too late and Bush lost his bid for re-election. Clinton was fortunate enough to catch the economic wave which he had little part in and despite his obvious personal problems of being a liar and reprobate, he won re-election. Actually, I disliked Clinton so much from the beginning, I voted against him 3 times, once in the 92' primary and in both Presidential elections.

Some people are so ignorant, they believe the economy during the Clinton years was normal and good. It was neither normal or good. The 90's economy was Greenspan's baby and he ran it so hot, ignoring normal economic cycles, that it may take years to recover.

This is George W's dilemma. Gore would have had the same problem, had he been elected. To win re-election in 2004 almost demands turning the economy around and it doesn't look good.
