That guy is the fastest player in the history of the game, and one of only three truly great scorers in the last two decades--along with Michael and Larry. It's just that Allen never gets the calls.
It takes a special talent to make so many wrong statements of pseudo-truth, all in the same breath. Get a grip, kid.
Iverson hoisted 41 shots in Game 1 on Wednesday. "only 3 great scorers in the last 2 decades?????"
Wake up and smell the coffee (or, in your case, the latte). There are probably 50 guys in the past 2 decades who would be seen as "great scorers" by the likes of you, if only they machine gunned 41 shots per game. Dr. J, Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Bernard King, Adrian Dantley, Bob MacAdoo, Akeem Olajuwan, Isiah Thomas (he was also very fast), and on and on.......hey, ever hear of Kareem Abdul Jabbar?????
Iverson doesn't get some of the calls because he so often and obviously goes careening out of bounds with every little contact. There ought to be a picture of him in the dictionary under the word "flop".
You want great scorer??? Well, hang on here, but guess what, there was a lot of NBA before you were born, kid. It's not just the past 2 decades of your existence. Elgin Baylor was way ahead of his time, well before Dr. J. And the best scorer at the #2 guard was Jerry West, Zeke from Cabin Creek (because he went to school at West Virginia....but I'm sure you already knew that). I watched countless Laker games, all called by Chick Hearn; West turned the Pump Fake into an art form. His opponents were always in the "popcorn machine". Remember, kid, West is one of the leading scorers of all time............and his 3 pointers only counted for 2. And, let's not forget that a lot of his foul shots at the time were awarded as "1+1". Babes can tell you that that meant you had to hit the first free throw in order to have a chance at shooting the second.
That said, Iverson is breathtakingly fast, but not a complete player, not a great playmaker (yet), and doesn't shoot consistently well. In fact, Ray Allen is probably a better pure shooter. What do you think Ray Allen would accomplish if he shot 30-45 shots per game like Iverson?
I enjoy watching Iverson play. He deserves all of the accolades for this season. Why don't we wait a few years, and judge him as with all great players, on the basis of durability and consistency. Moreover, he'll lose his speed soon enough, and he'll need the more complete game to take his team and teammates to the top.
