Taiwan Hot Stock: DRAM Makers Up On Outsourcing Hopes
TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Shares of major Taiwanese dynamic random access memory chip makers are higher Friday amid hopes of greater outsourcing to Taiwan following reports that Japanese chip makers are cutting production.
At 0221 GMT (10:21 p.m. EDT Thursday), Winbond Electronics Corp. (Q.WBE) was up NT$2 (US$1=NT$34.076) to NT$32.10. Mosel Vitelic Inc. (Q.MVT) was NT$1.30 higher at NT$20.90. Nanya Technology Corp. (Q.NYT) was up NT$1.20 to NT$25.10.
The big board was up 2.1%.
Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Friday that major Japanese electronics makers are cutting production of 64-megabit DRAMs, with Toshiba Corp. outsourcing more production to a Taiwanese manufacturer.
