Tenchusatsu,

<Uh, Bill, Intel doesn't resort to the "Build it and they will come" strategy that AMD is using with their 760MP platform. Intel-based server design wins are locked in well in advance of the actual release. Without those advance design wins, the project becomes a prime candidate for the axe.>

Based on what transpired so far, it looks like AMD couldn't get Mustang and 760MP (or 760 for that matter) to be stable by Q3 2000 when it was promised to customers. That shut AMD window for high end servers (axe to Mustang). AMD slipped Palomino for a second time in Q1 of this year and that caused even the workstation guys to back-off (since P4 Xeon became available in the same time frame).

This industry is very unforgiving when it comes to product schedule slippage. Having worked on Merced I am sure you appreciate the time to market factor.

The folks working on Brookdale, I am sure, are keenly aware of having product ready by this year's peak selling season......
