Tobacco Getting Burned By It's Own Smoke

A jury in Los Angeles has awarded a 56 year old smoker with cancer $5.5 million in compensatory damages and $3 billion in punitive damages against the Phillip Morris company
in one of the largest awards ever in a civil lawsuit. The west coast has become a major stumbling block against big tobacco as four major cases have been found for the plaintiffs.

While most large jury awards are scaled back by the judge or even overturned on appeal, the trend does not bode well for tobacco companies, who are accused of conspiring to hide
the medical effects of smoking.

checks before October.
